Orienteering & School Mapping
Education / Schools
Orienteering is an international sport with elements that can be closely linked to ‘A Curriculum for Excellence’. Mapping Skills and Orienteering Courses are delivered to primary, secondary schools and special schools, with each school being mapped and courses planned in the playground and / or surrounding area. Orienteering courses promote working together, decision making, health and wellbeing, contributing to a team and effective learning (visit the ‘A Curriculum for Excellence’ page of this website for more information).
Beginning in the classroom or gym hall the course progresses the students through mapping skills, to working as a team, to completing a cross country course. All specialist equipment is provided and dates are by arrangement.
Crux Outdoors provides a school mapping service, creating at least 2 orienteering courses. In-service days can be used to deliver orienteering courses to staff, allowing orienteering to be used by teachers as a part of the learning experience. Visit the 'A Curriculum for Excellence' page to view areas where the activity relates to the curriculum.
