Sports Leaders UK Basic Expedition Leader Level 3 Course

The Basic Expedition Leader Award Course is aimed at teachers, youth workers and members of the community who are interested in the outdoors and wish to:

• Train people in the basic skills involved in journeying on foot in the British Isles in summer conditions

• Lead parties or groups in the lowland areas

• Have responsibility for the care of others, particularly the young out of doors, including day journeying parties

• Build the ability to organise safe overnight camps in lowland areas

Interested candidates must be at least 18 years of age before they receive the Award, although training may begin after their 17th birthday.

The Award does not qualify people to lead groups in remote or mountainous areas.

Courses can be arranged for groups, clubs, schools and colleges. They are usually conducted over four weekends.
